SEMO Stops Evansville’s Win Streak at 9

Southeast Missouri State hit the road to Evansville and came away with a convincing 10-4 victory Wednesday night, ending the Purple Aces’ season-high 9-game winning streak. It was only Evansville’s 3rd loss in their last 19 games after an 0-5 start.

SEMO scored 5 runs in the 1st inning off Evansville starter Willard Peterson, with 2 scoring on a double off the bat of Brett Graber. Southeast Missouri State also scored run on a pair of RBI singles from Chance Resetich and Caleb Rodgers. A 5th run scored on a ground out.

Evansville (16-8, 3-0) answered with 1 in the bottom of the 1st on a leadoff homer from Eric Roberts, the reigning Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week. It was Roberts’ 10th home run of the season. He’s hitting .304 with 33 RBIs in 24 games. Roberts also has 10 stolen bases. Roberts is one of only 2 players in the country with at least 10 homers and 10 steals. Mac Horvath of North Carolina (13 homers, 12 steals) being the other. But 4 runs was as close as Evansville would get on the night.

SEMO improved to 13-14 on the season with the win.

The Purple Aces are back in action this weekend, hosting a conference series against Belmont. Originally scheduled to start Friday, the series will now feature a Saturday doubleheader and a single game on Sunday.
