Sycamores Rightfully Rewarded as Regional Hosts

Ain’t no party like a Terre Haute party cuz a Terre Haute party don’t stop, or something like that. We’ll find out this weekend as Indiana State hosts an NCAA Regional for the first time. The Sycamores will learn their overall national seed and their 3 opponents for Regionals during Monday’s NCAA Tournament selection show. All 16 Regional hosts were announced Sunday night.

Joining Indiana State as host schools are:

SEC (8): Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, South Carolina, Vanderbilt.

ACC (4): Clemson, Miami, Virginia, Wake Forest (likely overall #1 seed).

Sun Belt (1): Coastal Carolina.

Pac-12 (1): Stanford.

Big 12 (1): Oklahoma State.

Interestingly, and in part due to half the regional hosts being from one conference, only 3 of the 16 national seeds won their conference tournaments. Along with Indiana State, Clemson and Vanderbilt were crowned as ACC and SEC champions, respectively, on Sunday.

If you haven’t read up on Indiana State’s 2-game battle with Evansville for the Valley championship on Saturday, you can check that out here. For more on how the Sycamores turned a 2-8 start to the season into a dominant conference performance, I have that right here for you.

Tomorrow, once the full field is announced, I’ll preview the Terre Haute Regional and give some thoughts on the rest of the brackets.

Happy Baseball.
